Sharks & Minnows

Skill
Dribbling
Shielding
Area
15’ circle
Enlarge or shrink as needed
Equipment
Enough cones to make a 15yard circle and one ball for each player
Players
Whole team
(6 players)

Procedure – Hold one kid (the shark) by the back of the shirt outside the circle. The shark is the only player without a ball. When you let go of the shark’s shirt, the shark runs in and attempts to kick all the other kid’s (minnows) balls out of the area. The minnows should try to protect their ball and keep in constant motion while shielding and turning to avoid the nasty shark. The last minnow in possession of their ball, becomes the shark for the next game.

Key coaching points – Ephasize that each minnow should place his body between the ball and the shark. Keep the minnows in constant motion making various turns with their ball..

Variations – If the shark can’t get the job done, add another shark or shrink the circle

Comments – Kids love this drill, no matter what their age.
